Post disaster relief and rehabilitation
Although IC believes that preparedness is far cheaper option than waiting for disasters to happen and then provide assistance. However, in Pakistan there have been several cases when disasters took place and a mass level support was required in the post factum. During floods in Hazara in late 90s, IC provided assistance to displaced communities in Shinkiari. IC was one of the first organizations to respond after the earthquake of 2005. Similarly, in a scenario when huge number of families from Swat, Buner and Dir are returning homes after remaining displaced for a number of months, IC was actively engaged in providing them assistance in rehabilitating their livelihoods base through cash for work programmes and provision of non food relief items. IC was the first organization to provide immediate relief in DI Khan and Karak with food and non food itmes after the floods disrupted lives in these three districts on 28th of July 2010. non food items were also provided in Chail valley of Swat. Homeless communities were supported for winterization in Swat and for reconstruction of houses in DI Khan. Seeds were also provided to the farmers in these two districts. IC is a partner of Swiss Humanitarian Aid in all these projects.
