Innovation for Poverty Reduction Project (IPRP) 2002-2007
The project stemmed out of the study conducted by SDC funded Project for Horticulture Promotion (PHP) which concluded that the subsector of medicinal and aromatic plants can potentially help reducing poverty and directly interests poor gujar women. However, during planning process, the scope of project was broadened to non timber forest produce. The project operated in districts Buner, Swat and Chitral. The project closely collaborated with the forest department, Qarshi Industries Pvt. Ltd., International Development Research Centre (IDRC), International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) and several local NGOs. The project strived for improving livelihoods of poor farmers through innovative market led diversification in Non Timber Forest Produce, indigenous knowledge management and functional literacy.
